The mountain range of Lefka Ori or Madares is located in western Crete, has a length of 60 km. and width 35km. and covers most of the prefecture of Chania and part of the prefecture of Rethymno. The highest peak is Pachnes at 2,453 meters while there are still 58 peaks above 2,000 meters. The White Mountains are ideal for a multi-day cross-country skiing.
